Breakfast sausage flavored seitan recipe that can be topped with maple syrup and jalapeños.
Breakfast Sausage Seitan
Ingredients
- 1 cup vital wheat gluten
- 1 Tbsp dried sage
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- 2-3 cloves, crushed
- 1/2 tsp marjoram
- pinch hot pepper flakes
- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 1 Tbsp aminios (go with coconut for a lower sodium result)
- 1 cup water
Directions
- Combine all dry ingredients in bowl of stand mixer.
- Combine wet ingredients in bowl and add to dry.
- Mix using the dough hook on medium-low speed for 6 minutes.
- Wrap dough in aluminum foil, shaping into a log. Twist ends of foil. Alternatively, cut and shape into sausage sized links, wrapping individually in foil.
- Place in Instapot steaming basket. Add 1.5 cups of water for steaming. Set Instapot to 25 minutes high pressure.
- Quick release when finished. Remove foil and let cool before handling. Cut into desired pieces.
- Heat heavy bottom pan over medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp oil. Brown sausage seitan pieces.
